UID or Unique Identifier. This is typically a military term (also IUID - item Unique Identifier) that signifies a unique code assigned to an item. There are numerous specifications around this -- but, only one that really matters: Mil Std 130N. Once again, the military managed to make a 120 page document to basically say: 1) Each item over $5,000 will have a UID tag. 2) Be smart and use your CAGE (commercial and government entity) code, your part number, and a unique serial number. 3) Store it in a DataMatrix (2-D Barcode) format. The easiest way to get a UID: SimplyRFiD's Pro-Tags UID service. SimplyRFiD prints and sends you UID tags in a day. You apply to your item. For high-volume UID needs (over 5,000 per year): SimplyRFiD's On-Demand software creates about 3,000 UID's tags an hour. |
