Liquids absorb radio frequency. Simple answer, liquids reduce the read range of tags that are placed nearby. Consider the following when tagging liquids:
- Consider using a foam spacer If you can't avoid placing tags on liquid-filled containers. Spacers allow the tag to return almost its full signal back to the reader.
- Place liquid bottles inside cardboard containers. If there is air between the cardboard container and the liquid bottles, you should be able to place your tag near that space.
- RFID tags will not work when they are wet. Most tags built into a synthetic label will function again after they are dried. For a waterproof tag, we recommend NOX-1 Waterproof RFID Tag, TX-2 Waterproof RFID Tag, and NOX-TM4 Metal Mount RFID Tag.
