Asset Tracking with RFID

NoxVault handheld can locate most $0.20 cent RFID tags up to 20' away. When a tag is located, the time/date/location is stored on the handheld and synchronized to an Excel spreadsheet.

An in-depth article on the pros and cons of RFID asset tracking can be found on our blog.

We try to keep it simple -- and the following is everything you'll need to know to update your inventory:

Keeping track of your stuff in 3 steps:
  1. Create an Excel spreadsheet with your inventory items.
    • You can have custom fields (e.g. cost, who owns it, and serial number). We include a sample spreadsheet with common fields. You probably already have something you'll want to use.
  2. Tag your assets with RFID Tags.
    • We include some starter RFID tags. Once you figure out the types of RFID tags you will need for your items, just order more of that type of tag. Different assets need different tags. Please see our guideline for RFID tagging ideas and tips.
  3. Take inventory quickly with your NoxVault RFID Asset Tracking System.
    • The NoxVault handheld can read about 100 RFID tags per second. If you're fast on your feet, you can probably inventory 1,000 items in a minute.
    • The last scan date/time is updated into Excel. You can sort your data in Excel to see what's missing. The NoxVault also tells you which items are missing, but the tiny little screen isn't the most enjoyable way to manage data.

Opening Screen -- Quickly start an inventory or find stuff.

Taking Inventory -- Show's what you are looking for, how many items haven't been found and any misplaced items. Example: Maybe it's finding a PC placed in the incorrect room, or building. You can click the 'Not Expected' to see a list of misplaced items.

Mixing Barcodes and RFID -- Sometimes, you'll want to use both. For instance, you might want to assign a UID barcode to use the serial number provided by the manufacturer.
